Emily Hill, Maddie Spence, and JoAnn Wickes of Cromwell’s Interior Design department were all recently named to the Planning Committee for the Central Arkansas Design Community within the South-Central Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). The three hold the positions of publicity chair, program chair, and student liaison, respectively. All are volunteer positions to be held through October 2021.
The planning committee is expected to plan and coordinate events at the local level as a way to reach members, receive involvement from manufacturer representatives with designers, and to attract architects and non-members to the organization. In addition to planning the events, they are responsible for collecting sponsorships levels beforehand and are assigned various coordination roles throughout the events. Examples of past events include the AIA/ASID annual Christmas party, ARcon ‘Bringing NeoCon to Arkansas’, and Product Runway ‘Fright Night’.
“This is the start of my seventh year volunteering in various roles within our ASID South Central Chapter and/or Central Arkansas Design Community,” Emily Hill said. “I’ve enjoyed staying involved and giving back to an organization that has helped me grow as an emerging professional. I have appreciated the fellowship and design friends I’ve gained over these past few years so I’m looking forward to participating in another great year.”
As a recent graduate, Maddie Spence is brand new to the ASID organization.
“Being part of the ASID community has not only allowed me to meet new people, but it has also influenced me in striving to become a better designer,” Maddie said. “It has provided a source of education that has increased my knowledge on the breadth of information in this field.”
JoAnn Wickes’ position of student liaison serves as a connection for students to the professional world. She specifically focuses on Harding University, of which she is an alumna.
“Our role is to show students the importance of being involved in ASID starting from a student membership and then being available to serve as a friend and connection if they need it,” JoAnn said. “It’s a great opportunity for us to stay connected with upcoming talent and for students to get a better idea of what they are working towards.”
