After more than 37 years of dedicated service, Cromwell Architects Engineers announces the retirement of Chief Executive Officer Greg Cockmon, AIA, effective July 10, 2026.
Greg’s retirement marks the culmination of a remarkable career defined by leadership, innovation, service, and an unwavering commitment to the people and communities Cromwell serves. Since joining the firm as an Intern Architect in 1989, Greg has helped guide Cromwell through a period of unprecedented growth and transformation while preserving the values that have defined the firm for 141 years.
A native of Little Rock, Greg discovered architecture through a passion for both creativity and problem-solving. Influenced by his father, an engineer, and encouraged through art and drafting courses during high school, he found a profession that blended technical expertise with meaningful impact. After earning an Associate Degree in Architectural Engineering Technology from Southern Arkansas University Tech and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Arkansas Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design, Greg joined Cromwell and began what would become his entire professional career.
“When I joined Cromwell as an intern architect in 1989, I never imagined the journey that was ahead of me,” said Cockmon. “What began as my first job became a lifelong career filled with opportunities to serve clients, work alongside talented professionals, and help shape a company that has meant so much to me. I am grateful for the people and experiences that have defined my career and for the privilege of helping lead this organization. I look forward to seeing the continued growth at Cromwell, from a different perspective, and how they continue to shape the communities they serve.”
Over the course of nearly four decades, Greg developed expertise across a broad range of project types, including educational facilities, healthcare environments, corporate offices, government facilities, residential developments, adaptive reuse projects, and master planning efforts throughout the United States and abroad. Licensed in ten states and holding an NCARB Certificate, he earned a reputation for technical excellence, thoughtful leadership, and a steadfast commitment to client service.
Among his many accomplishments, Greg played a pivotal role in establishing and growing Cromwell’s federal architecture and engineering practice. Through strategic relationship-building, technical expertise, and a deep understanding of federal contracting, he helped expand the firm’s presence with the Department of Defense and other federal agencies. His leadership strengthened relationships with military installations around the world and positioned Cromwell as a trusted partner for mission-critical projects supporting service members and their families.
Greg’s leadership abilities ultimately led him into executive management roles, serving as President for 12 years before being named Chief Executive Officer in 2020. During a period marked by economic uncertainty, evolving client expectations, and significant industry change, Greg provided steady leadership that positioned Cromwell for long-term success.
Under his leadership, Cromwell more than doubled in size, expanded into new geographic markets, and opened additional offices while continuing to strengthen its reputation for excellence. Equally important, Greg remained committed to preserving the firm’s culture and investing in its people. He consistently emphasized that Cromwell’s greatest asset was its employees and worked to create an environment where individuals could grow professionally, contribute meaningfully, and build lasting careers.
Greg also championed initiatives that will benefit future generations of architects and engineers. Under his direction, Cromwell established endowed scholarships at both the University of Arkansas Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design and the University of Arkansas College of Engineering. These investments reflect his longstanding belief in developing future leaders and strengthening the professions that have shaped his career.
This commitment to service extended far beyond the workplace. Throughout his career, Greg has served in leadership roles with organizations including the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, and his local church. He remains an active supporter of Habitat for Humanity of Central Arkansas and has consistently sought opportunities to give back to the communities that have supported Cromwell throughout its history.
Those who have worked closely with Greg often describe him as a steady, optimistic leader whose personal philosophy of “No Bad Days” reflects how he approached leadership and life. Whether mentoring emerging professionals, navigating challenges, or celebrating milestones, Greg has consistently focused on gratitude, resilience, and the opportunities ahead.

As he enters retirement, Greg looks forward to spending more time with his wife, children, and family, traveling, enjoying the outdoors, supporting the Razorbacks, playing golf, and continuing to invest in causes and organizations that are important to him.
While Greg’s retirement marks the end of an extraordinary chapter in Cromwell’s history, the foundation he helped build ensures the firm is exceptionally well-positioned for the future. His influence can be seen in the projects completed, the clients served, the employees mentored, and the culture that continues to define the organization.
