Following European models of sterile processing that produce more predictable outcomes, all sterile processing for numerous operating suites within the University of Nebraska system, including Bellevue Medical Center and the Buffett Cancer Center, are now processed in this 39,000 SF facility.

In turn, valuable and scarce square footage located within the system’s many operating suites was opened up for more patient focused care. This centralized sterile processing center incorporates one way flow of processing from decontamination to assembly to sterilization and sterile storage.

State-of-the-art tracking procedures and quality control (QC) testing for every surgery pack identify potential infection and contamination issues before sterile containers are shipped back to the operating room. Automated Getinge equipment is utilized throughout the facility. As one of the first facilities of this kind in the United States, the University of Nebraska is leading the nation in the future of sterile processing.
