Arkansas Children’s Hospital Donald W. Reynolds Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

Little Rock, AR

The new 27,000 SF Pediatric Intensive Care Unit delivers high acute, advanced technological care to the sickest patients at the hospital. The replacement of an outmoded pediatric intensive care unit gave Arkansas Children’s Hospital, one of America’s largest pediatric medical centers serving children from birth to age 21, the opportunity to develop an extraordinary family-focused facility. The 24,100 SF, 26-bed Donald W. Reynolds PICU incorporates efficient space planning and intricate architectural details to provide families and staff with an environment that is aesthetically soothing as well as functional.

The ‘Caring Through the Seasons’ theme provides a sense of orientation and makes each patient room special. Not only does this meticulously planned environment employ state-of-the-art equipment, it also offers staff improved patient access and supervision. Private rooms, some with panoramic views of the state capital out spacious windows, provide parents with daybeds and private toilets. To quote Dr. Sunny Anand, chief of pediatric critical care medicine for Arkansas Children’s, “Visitors and family members have reported greater comfort and have found the environment and interior design calming and soothing, perhaps during the most stressful period of their lives. The new design of the new PICU has resulted in improved patient care, improved therapeutic outcomes and increased staff performance and efficiency.”
