Joe is a 1982 graduate of Hendrix College (Physics) and a 1983 and 1984 graduate of Columbia University (BS, Civil Engineering, 1983 and MS Civil Engineering, 1984).  He started working for Cromwell in 1984 as a structural engineer in training.  Joe’s primary focus at the firm is acting as the director of structural engineering and project manager for industrial projects.

Industrial projects Joe has managed for Cromwell include several additions and renovations for Cameron Valve, L’Oreal, Lockheed Martin, Virco, Scroll Technologies, and others.  The projects include test facilities, cranes, heavy equipment and foundations, production facilities, hazardous facilities, and blast resistant facilities.    

Joe’s professional structural experience includes structural design of buildings across the United States and in Korea.  His expertise includes structural design of buildings for high wind and seismic loads including projects in San Diego, CA; Fairbanks, AK; and Miami, FL.  

Joe is a member and past-president of the Structural Engineers Association of AR and a member and past-president of the Arkansas Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers.  Volunteer activities include numerous positions at St. James United Methodist Church, 10 years as a soccer coach/team manager with the Little Rock Futbol club, and serving on the board of the Public Education Foundation of Little Rock. 

His wife, Nicki, is a professor of nuclear pharmacy at the UAMS College of Pharmacy.  They have two children, Amy, a first year pharmacy student at UAMS, and Holly, a freshman at the University of AR in Fayetteville.  Joe’s hobbies include travel and boating.  One of his life’s goals is to visit all 7 continents and all 50 states.  Joe is down to 3 states and 3 continents he has not visited.
